The emerging nutrigenomics research is shaping nutrition recommendation. The potential of nutrigenomics in prevent or delay the development and progression of major chronic diseases can have a major impact on public health issues. Nutrigenomics methodologies are rapidly evolving and there are a large number of genes to be studied. Stratifying population data in relation to genotype requires high number of individual samples for statistical significance, and these numbers are likely to be beyond the capabilities of any single laboratory or group.
Thus, the idea for the Asia Pacific Nutrigenomics Research Network that would enhance our potential capabilities was born. The Network would provide a focus for coordination of meetings, possibilities for student and investigator exchange, and the possible initiation of population pooling studies. Linkage with other groups internationally through a web interface would potentially enable the development of successful collaborations in the Asia Pacific region
